I have just received a document from the Samaritans asking for me to encourage depressed men to contact them.
Luckily the course is open again or otherwise they would have been inundated with phone calls!!!
We have had a busy three days with a lot of members playing. The course is in excellent condition with all greens being used.
Lets hope it remains clear of snow.
Happy new year to all.

Merry Christmas to all
Hope you all have a good christmas and a happy new year.
We continue to watch the weather forecast for a potential thaw which looks like it could be Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
The greens staff will be in as soon as there is potential for the course to open to make sure golf can be played as soon as possible.

Golf Course Closed Pro Shop Open
Back at work after the weekend and the course is well and truly closed. There is 2 to 3 inches of snow cover so no play, but the Pro Shop is open and Jon is looking cold in his winter woollies. You can still come and get those last minute pressies as well as foot and hand warmers. They may be needed.
The greens staff continue to do a good job clearing the driveway and car park of snow as well as salting it to prevent ice. The bar and kitchen will be open with a few functions going ahead.
According to the 5 day forecast on BBC it does not look like the temperature will rise above freezing so it does not appear that the snow will melt until after christmas.
It appears as if it is going to be another very quiet and very long week at the club.
If I do not see you befiore, have a great christmas

Sunshine
It was just a flurry, but a good one. Within a few minutes it had cleared and the sun has ben shining since. A massive change in temperature as a result.
Hopefully the course will remain open for the weekend

Disaster !!!!
It has just started snowing....
Hopefully just a quick flurry, which will not settle. It is bitterly cold, but still quite a few playing the course. A superb assortment of woolly hats on show.
We are still on all 18 greens at the moment and hope this continues.
Updates to follow

Winter Projects
Just a quick update on the winter projects that will continue to improve the course.
The main project will be the 9th tee, which will be redesigned. There will still be the three tiers, but improvements will be made to level out the teeing area and box them in with sleepers. As soon as work begins in the new year and weather permitting, the tee in front of the conifers will be used.
As well as the above the steps up to the 18th tee will be adjusted so that the steeps are not as deep.

Weather and Course update
We are still open and on all 27 greens. The fog had a go at closing the course this morning, but fortunately did not get too bad.
The weather for the next few days up to Friday is cold with a possibility of some snow.
I will update the blog if the course does have to close.
The weekend saw a good many golfers here at the club and despite the previous two weeks the course was in excellent condition.
The December stableford was postponed until next weekend and the Junior / Adult texas scramble in the diary for the 26th December has been delayed by one day and will now take place on the 27th. This is due to the clubhouse being closed on the 26th.

Smiling Faces
At last some people at the golf club!!!.
With the course open a number of people took full advantage and played golf this morning. Despite the hard ground the course is still in good condition.
All 18 greens will be in play over the weekend, so with the forecast as it is for next week, you may need to take full advantage.

Course Update
The heavy frost last night did not help, however the greens staff are working to clear the greens of the remaining snow in a bid to get the course operational. An update will follow later to decide when the course will reopen.

Massive Improvement, but still closed
The golf course has turned green, well most of it. The actual greens are still white, but if we continue with the thaw it will not be long until they are back to their usual colour.
It is expected to be down to minus 4 tonight, but from tomorrow onwards it will improve.
The course will remain closed on Thursday 9th December, but I will update you tomorrow for the following day and the weekend.

Pro Shop and Club still open for business!
The greens are still covered in snow and although most of the rest of the course is now snow free there is some sheet ice about. There is a severe frost covering the ground and trees, which does look very pretty, but is not good for golf.
It appears to have got worse over the course of the day with temperatures dropping to well below freezing.
The course will remain closed for the next couple of days, when we should then start to see some higher temperatures.
It is possible that the course may reopen at the weekend.

Course Closed, Pro Shop open
Having managed to get to work today, i have seen that there is at least an inch of snow covering the ground and in some places where the wind has caused the snow to drift it is a lot deeper.
The ground underneath is solid and should there be a thaw in the next few days there is nowhere for it to run off.
Having spoken with the course manager, Darren, he is of the opinion that the course is likely to stay closed well into next week.
You can hear the Course Information daily update on 01722 742645 option 5.

Course and Club now closed
Sorry to say this, but due to the bad weather even the clubhouse has closed for today. The christmas lunch that was to take place today has had to be cancelled and there will be no staff on the premises.
Some of us hope to be in tomorrow, when I can update you on the course, but it does not look hopeful for the weekend.

Snow and More Snow - 1st December
The course is still closed and has been since Saturday. Although there is not much snow it is still covering the ground and is not thawing at all. With the forecasts the course is expected to be closed until the weekend at least.
